My approach to teaching guitar playing and musicianship focusses on enjoyment, encouragement and motivation. I believe that the most important job I can do as a teacher is to inspire my students to want to keep playing - the more you enjoy it, the more you play and the more you keep learning!

for children

aged 6 and above

Learning to play guitar from a young age has so many more benefits than just developing a new skill. In a world of instant gratification from video games, YouTube, and the pull of social media, investing time and energy on an instrument can be greatly rewarding.

With young children, my approach to teaching varies depending on the goals of the parents and the pupil. This could be anything from learning RSL Rockshool grades for GCSE Music to exploring whatever songs the student likes week by week. Often pursuing the music they truly love develops a deeper passion for the instrument and helps them see the benefits of learning in a more formal framework later on. Alternatively, we just make-up fun songs ourselves, and we don't even realise we are practising chord changes!

any level of experience

I love helping people of any age and level of experience acheive their ambitions. Whether you have clear goals for your playing or you would like to explore your relationship with the guitar more widely, I'd love to help!

I can bring my years of real-world practical experience playing the guitar in professional contexts with other musicians, as well as my strong background in traditional music education, to a wide variety of techniques across genres.

For students who want a more holistic approach to music making, I can also advise creatively in songwriting and production, and vocal technique.
